Ammunition,
packaging, engineering
and manufacturing

Vertrex has overseas suppliers across multiple continents to ensure certainty of ammunition box supply.

All boxes are labelled, stencilled and come with a non-removable barcode, enabling discreet tracking of individual boxes, and potentially its contents, throughout its serviceable life.

Vertrex has extensive experience in ammunition packaging and is responsible for maintaining inventory of the Australian Defence Force’s four most used ammunition containers – M19A1, M2A1, M548, PA125 – and their internal furniture.

Our involvement managing Defence’s ammunition inventory started in 2003 with 25,000 M2A1 containers and today there are more than 900,000 boxes of this type tracked throughout their lifecycle within the Defence system.

STAGE 1
Reusable boxes

Vertrex collects used steel packaging, M2A1, M19A1, M548 and PA125, from depots around Australia for inspection and refurbishment. Boxes not fit for refurbishment are sent to metal recycling facilities.

STAGE 2
Refurbishment

Each box is visually inspected to ensure conformity to military standards. Boxes are then surface treated and painted.

Quality testing
Quality testing occurs to Defence specifications:

  • Paint thickness
  • Paint Adhesion
  • Compression
  • Salt Spray
  • Mechanical function
  • Weld inspection

STAGE 3
Label/Stencil

All boxes are labelled and stencilled. They are then 100% dry pressure tested and barcoded for tracking.

STAGE 4
Issue/Delivery

Ready to use ammunition boxes are delivered to Defence suppliers.

NEW BOXES

IMPORT

Ammunition box management and reuse

Vertrex collects used steel packaging, M2A1, M19A1, M548 and PA125 from Defence storage depots around Australia.

Each box is visually inspected to ensure conformity to military standard prior to refurbishment.

Boxes tested and found unfit for refurbishment are sent to metal recycling facilities.

Boxes fit for refurbishment are surface treated and painted, with every box vacuum tested to confirm air tightness. All refurbished boxes are labelled, stencilled, barcoded for tracking and are quality tested to defence specifications before delivery.

Pallet refurbishment

Vertrex has the capability to manufacture Explosive Carrying Pallets to Australian and US Military Specification design criteria.

In line with the Company’s commitment to recycle as much as possible, Vertrex also retains a large quantity of hardwood and softwood pallets for sale or reuse in the business.
